An easy classic hamburger recipe that is juicy, tender, and packed with flavour. It's made with quality premium beef mince and has the best burger seasoning. Pile it high with your favourite toppings and serve with chips or wedges.
Serves 6
Ingredients
- 750g Premium beef mince
- 1 ½ teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons of paprika
- ½ teaspoon light brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Make burger seasoning: by combining all spices in a bowl. Set aside.
- Make burger patties: Divide beef mince into 6 equal portions and gently form into thick patties that are wider than the burger buns, since the meat will shrink as it cooks. Make them in advance and leave them in the fridge. Bring patties to room temperature before cooking. (30mins).
- Indent: Use your thumb to press a gentle indentation into the centre of each patty, which will help them cook evenly and not puff up in the centre. Cover and set aside while preheating BBQ or grill.
- BBQ/Grill: Preheat to medium high heat (200°c-250°c). Just before cooking, sprinkle burger seasoning over the patties, then place on hot grill, indent-side up. Close BBQ/grill lid and cook for 3-4 minutes, until the bottom of the burger is seared and juices are accumulating on top of the burger. Flip and cook an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the beef reaches 60-65c degrees for medium doneness. See cooking guide below for rare, medium rare, well done etc.).
- Add cheese on top of burger patties during the last minute of cooking. Remove to a plate and allow to rest for a few minutes before serving on a bun, with desired toppings.

🔥 Hot Tip 🔥
The most accurate way to determine the doneness of meat is to use a meat thermometer. Insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the meat, away from fat or bone. Many modern meat thermometers have degree-of-doneness temperatures on their displays.
- Rare: 45–50°C
- Medium rare: 55–60°C
- Medium: 60–65°C
- Medium well: 70°C
- Well done: 75–80°C
